Sometimes it might feel as though you will never find your life purpose. There is so much to do in your everyday life that it seems there is not enough time to even get the basics done. Besides, the world’s problems are so big and overwhelming, what can one leadership maven do? It is time to re-frame and take control.
Exploring what you want to do that will have a positive impact on the world can be a fascinating and fulfilling process itself. Here are 5 steps you can take to find your calling in the world!
Look inside of you, what is it that fires you up? What are you passionate about? What do you love doing? What inspires you? Check your browser history and reading list. Your big thing is right under your nose. You just need to visualize it, and claim it.
Everyone has something that they excel at. Write down all the things that you are good at, pick out the top three that stand out, the ones that you can offer right now. Instead of feeling helpless, recognize that you have a unique combination of experience and skill to offer the world. No one else in the world can offer what you can right now.
Whatever your life purpose is, you want it to have a positive impact on your community of course. Think about who you want to help. Do you relate to children, single moms, or the elderly? Are your leadership skills useful for fundraising, or writing submissions? Are you more comfortable as a leader or an assistant? Find an organization that could do with a helping hand, whether it is pro-bono, or hands-on volunteering.
You have identified your Big Thing! Congrats! This means you know what your unique skills are and how to use them to serve your community. You can connect the dots now. What are the common themes? You might be passionate about human rights and use your skills to advocate for a local Amnesty branch. Or you may offer free haircuts to the homeless.
Now that you have your purpose package, you can get to work. Look for opportunities to align your life purpose with physical action in the world. Be bold! Resolve to do what you can, where you can. You may not be able to achieve world peace, but you can help make your community a better place.
Who does not want to be confident and happy living the life you want? With these tidbits, you can start providing yourself with the life you want. You are a leadership maven after all!
